German Awards - Life Saving Medal 1881
The medal was established by Grand Duke Karl Alexander on June 24, 1881. This was preceded by a law of 1823, which provided for a person who saved the life of an unfortunate person with special determination and expediency, a special reward. When creating a medal, this must be taken into account. The persons of the Grand Duchy were awarded, who, risking their own lives, saved other people. The medal was awarded without taking into account the title. Proposals for this came from the Ministry of State. Awarding was carried out personally by the Grand Duke. The medal was not refundable. The stamp was made by Professor Ferdinand Helfricht in Gotha.
